D. M. Gremlin Productions recording and photography studio is holding its 4th Studio Open House night on March 28, 2008.
This is a friendly get-together for local artists and friends to share an evening of conversation, meet-and-greet, and casual photo shooting.

Make sure to bring your cameras, because this month we will be featuring a bodypaint/photography mini-workshop with
Lisa Berczel of Battledress Paint n' Body, along with photographer extraordinaire Adam Chilson!

Featured model for the event is Conundra (conundra.deviantart.com; Model Mayhem #133256).
But there are likely to be a number of models in attendance, so there is the possibility of informal shooting with several different models.

Check out this thread for views of a few images shot right here at the last Open House night in February!

For current studio clients, no RSVP is necessary, just come on over!

If you've never been here before and would like to attend, please RSVP in advance.
Email the studio at studio@dm-gremlin.com, or call 866-334-4364. Or reply to this forum thread so we will be expecting you.
There is no limit on attendance, but we must know who you are in order to let you in!

Any ideas or suggestions for a theme?

Deadly Sexy is always a good theme. All you need is a couple weapons of various choice. No blood, no guts, no sweat or tears. Just the smoking hot model and a weapon or four.

Author:  wynnesome [ Thu Mar 06, 2008 5:57 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

Conundra could pull that off, I think. Except, hm. Adam, you're not into shooting girls with guns when they don't really know how to shoot, correct? Cause Megan doesn't. She's handled an unloaded gun as a prop before though. There are of course other weapons than guns.

Silver robot-like paint instead of "paint the girl gold"? Or just camo "war paint" type of thing?

Megan is so colorful, too. Her hair is green around the color of mine right now, and I think she's planning on keeping that for a while. So that might figure into any ideas.

One other semi-random thought - Skunkman Pete said he doesn't mind bringing his giant inflatables - he has a tiger and I think a dragon. I don't know if he is coming to the open house this time but I could ask him if he is and if he would bring one of those if that would be fun for people to shoot. The fun and playful side, to contrast the bloody and dangerous we did last time.

Well, there are a few bits of thoughts. Does that get anything further going for anyone else? We'll come up with something, I'm sure. We should get Lisa to join here and jump in as well.

Well, it sounds more like something to do with bright colours and lots of them. Toys of all shapes and sizes. Maybe do a 'KiddO' type of them. with bright colours and toys and stuffed animals and stuff.

Edit to add;

"I Don't Wana Go to BeD" Kids doing things to avoid getting tucked in. That could be fun. Me likes.

I'm up for either a Silver or Camo paint...

I've seen soooooo many bad Camo body paints. It might be a LOT of fun to try my hand at it.

From her hair, sounds like we gotta go for JungleFlage

Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

Yep, shades of green it will probably have to be, if camo. Her hair color is shown here:

http://conundra.deviantart.com/art/It-s-Not-Easy-Being-Green-78466569

Anyone have ideas for a simple set we can create around this then? I guess we don't want her "too" camouflaged for photos!

I know how much Lisa likes to do clothing.

With those bright eyes, and that bright hair, she is screaming to be a SuperHero of some kind.

Yet,
Mixing the two elements, you could do something, with silver/chrome w/ head like Destro from GI Joe, then do a military uniform. ODGreen top/bottom with hints of camo design, ammo belts like suspenders. lets of dynamic folds/wrinkles/pockets.

Or, a Techno-camo blacklight responsive.

there are lots of possibles.

Well, for the informal open house I think the plan was to keep it pretty simple for the paint... but of course that's really up to Lisa how much detail and time she wants to put into it! The ideas are great!

Might have to turn the pants into shorts.

Will have to see what the paint window is?

I have an idea, to a mixture of the two. The Schoolgirl Top, but instead of being so long, do it cut short /ripped. then maybe also the dress but make it plaid shorts, /ripped. That way it cuts (no pun intended) the material (time) down to Paint the outfit. If ya wanted, instead of making the jacket brown/blue whatever, do it in a faded camo so you can keep that theme as well. Grab all those plants Wynnesome has all over the studio and we have a set. Oh yeah don't forget a nice sharp weapon L()L.

p.s. I lost my Manners.

Hiya Lisa, hows it going? Long time no see 6-; Gonna be great watching you work again.

edit for my poor spelling.
second edit to add...

Oh, what if you kept the ripped up turtleneck sweater from the second, and put the ripped up jacket over it? that would be cool to see the layers of paint to create the depth. hmmm, well your call im just throwing stuff out there. 6-;

Oh yeah, don't mind me Im just trying to avoid my coursework L()L...

Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

A military theme is pretty easy to set up for. I still have a few props and some camo netting that's good for backdrops.

Also gives us the chance to switch up lighting for more dramatic, even warzone type imagery. Throw in the smoke generator, some colored gels, and create a dynamic scene. Easily adaptable for the workshop the next day, too.

Conundra can let some of that personality out to play!

Bringing in a half ton of dirt for the ground plane. Optional.

Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

An Xmas card we never ended up releasing. Uses the same set. Could work in some of the plastic plants and hide the ground plane, but still keep the more dramatic lighting.

Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

Inflatable animals has merit, too. Go over-the-top with the cutesy, colorful, "play" Jane of the Jungle thing. Plastic animals, plastic plants, sorty goofy, but on purpose.

Author:  wynnesome [ Sun Mar 09, 2008 10:52 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Studio Open House, March 28, 2008

Let me know if you want the inflatable animals. Those would come from Pete the Skunkman, who was here last time. I would have to find out for sure if he could come to this one and if he could bring those. No problem contacting him if we want to go that route, and then planning based on his availability or not to come and bring the inflatables.

I can make a trip to Home Depot for some astroturf.... or wal-mart or something, someone has to have some. Or - check Craigslist, especially for any giveaways in the freebie section. That would be just ideal.

When the lights go off, and everyone scatters;
body's strewn across the floor, tired, worn, exhausted;
there are still those whom creep the shadows, tormented, lost, and urning.
What is out there? Will they help?
Inside out, filled with pain, there is a war;
a Holy War.

The Open house was my first visit to Gremlin. Thanks to Adam and Wendy for their generosity.

I am a newbie to studio lighting and working with models. I was not able to shoot with the flash set-up, so I shot natural light.

Also much thanks to all the models who did such a great job. I will upload a few images over the next couple of days.

Thank you for posting! Well, you are definitely in the right place to start learning about studio lighting. We're continuing our workshop series with Adam, and all the workshop information can be found here: http://www.starkravenmusic.com/workshop.html. Next one is April 19th.

Looking forward to seeing more of your images from the Open House!

We are also holding a lighting workshop in Las Vegas "Lighting the Nude" (including the basics) with 4 models (including Wendy!) for just $40. It's Saturday, May 10, at my studio. I'll post an event notice soon.

I'd be more than happy to. Where would you like it posted? Perhaps in the description field of the posted images? I'm glad to hear you liked that shot, I have gotten a couple of comments on that one now. Thanks

I would think either as a watermark if you're not opposed, or just a note here as to what you would like the credit to say. I usually do something like: Model: (Model) Photographer: (link to photographer's profile or webpage, or name). Whichever is easier for you Smile

I really enjoyed the Open Studio night. I'd like to thank Andrew for the invitation at DPC; Wendy and Adam for putting on the event; Arielle and Chuck for helping me with camera settings; and the models and body painter.

The only lights I have worked with are the sun and some desk lamps. It was really fun to get to use studio lights. Here are a couple of examples from a beginner.

Thanks-
Roxanne (zippy)
